John Haines’s Summary

John Haines is living the simple life he sought, as he so eloquently describes in his book, In Search of Simplicity: A True Story that Changes Lives. He is currently writing a sequel to the aforementioned book, another book on natural health and he's creating an anthology of sound workers. John Haines’ popular weekly radio program, Voices from the North, simultaneously carried on radio and cable TV, involves one hour interviews with people from all walks of life. John’s intention on the program is to inform, educate, entertain and inspire the public.

He teaches nutrition at a community college and helps coordinate a Complementary Therapies program at the same college. He offers workshops (he calls them Playshops) in yoga, voice, sound and expression for the Far North community and beyond. Together with his lovely wife Lucia, John coordinates the home schooling of their two teenage daughters. He writes on demand for local newspapers, relieves when needed in the public library, and grows healthy and abundant organic fruits and vegetables for his family. John is a singer/songwriter who has recorded three peace songs while living in the Netherlands.

Earlier in life he lived a self sufficient permaculture-based lifestyle in New Mexico, working with solar power and simple hand-made solar technology. He converted a seven hectare subtropical fruit orchard to organics at the top of Zealand’s South Island and he and his wife developed and ran a Natural Health Retreat Centre in New Zealand’s Far North.

He holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario and an MBA from York University in Toronto, Ontario.

  • Workshop Facilitator

    Sounds Peaceful

    (Professional Training & Coaching industry)

    2000Present (8 years)

John facilitates workshops or what he calls playshops in voice, sound, and communication. These one or two day playshops are available to anyone who wishes to enhance the quality of their voice. Everyone was born with a beautiful voice. Often, somewhere along the emotional journey of life, the pure, natural, resonant and beautiful voice we are born with gets hidden, so to speak. Using simple techniques anyone can learn, the emotional baggage is released and the pure essence of the voice is regained. This leads to profound possibilities. One can discover their unique mission in life, enhance their ability to communicate in the workplace and at home, and learn to sing with confidence and in tune. One learns to speak one's truth.

Techniques range through learning to breathe in natural ways, producing soft pure tones (the tonal voice is different from the speaking or singing voice) and learning to listen the way you've never listened before.
