John Gerzema's Summary

As a strategist and leadership consultant, I utilize data analytics, consumer research and journalism to identify social change and help companies anticipate and adapt to new trends and demands.

As CEO of WPP Group’s BAV Brand Consulting, I oversee BrandAsset Valuator, the world's largest global brand database. I have written three best-selling books on social change, consumer behavior and leadership. My new book, The Athena Doctrine is a New York Times best seller and all have appeared on critics “best of” lists at The Wall Street Journal, FAST COMPANY, Washington Post, Bloomberg Business Week, Inc., Amazon editors review and THE WEEK Magazine.

In The Brand Bubble, I identified changes in consumer attitudes that preceded the financial crisis and was #3 in Amazon’s best business books of 2008 and in the best marketing books by Strategy & Business for 2009. My second book, Spend Shift: How The Post Crisis Values Revolution is Changing The Way We Buy, Sell and Live -- is a WSJ Best Seller and voted one of the top 10 TED talks in 2010.

I focus all board service on NGO's that can change the world. I am on the board of The National Kidney Foundation and a Fellow with The Athena Center for Leadership Studies at Barnard College. I advise The UN Foundation's Girl Up Campaign, The Weizmann Institute for Science and University of The People.

I'm also a public speaker. TED called me a “marketing whiz” (an overstatement). My talks center on innovation, social change, mindful consumption and ethical leadership. My ‘Trend Watcher’ column for Inc. has been widely read and have appeared on various broadcast media. I've written for McKinsey, HBR, WIRED and Fast Co. among others. My essay 'The Trouble With Brands' was voted one the top articles of The Decade by Strategy & Business.
