User Experience Designer, Software Architect, Engineering Manager, Photographer, Podcaster, Race Driving Instructor
San Francisco Bay Area
I bring a unique mix of extensive technical knowledge, user interface design expertise, great communication skills, and a strong understanding of business objectives. I have a deep passion for both great user interface design and engineering. I have been involved in design, technology, and business throughout my professional history - covering a wide range from designing, architecting, and coding complex commercial software to meeting with executives, investors, and the press. I have run engineering and product design for small companies, and have been a key contributor for much larger organizations. I have excellent communication skills, and am perfectly comfortable speaking in front of small crowds as well as extremely large ones.
I have shipped over 30 global commercial software products as an architect, designer, or key technology driver. Some highlights include Navigenics Health Compass, Annual Insight, and Physician Portal, the Apple Online Store, Sun Java Studio Creator, Borland JBuilder, Borland CBuilderX, Voxeo Designer, the JavaBeans Component Library (JBCL), and Borland Paradox for Windows. I am also a highly regarded industry speaker in the field of Java and internet technologies, and regularly speak at major software conferences around the world. I co-host the Java Posse, the #1 ranked Java technology podcast. I also serve on a few conference advisory boards including JavaOne.
Aside from the hustle and bustle of the software engineering career, I enjoy racing cars, instructing new race car drivers, and taking lots of photographs of pro soccer and nature.
