Joe’s work in graphic design has received national to international recognition in over 55 books and publications including AIGA annuals, American Corporate Identity annuals, The Design of Dissent, 1000 Type Treatments, 1000 Icons, Fresh Ideas books, Graphis books, The New Logo from California books, Typography 12, Communication Arts, Print, and How. He has published articles on design in AIGA Journal of Graphic Design, LIMN, and Studio. He has received more than 120 regional to international awards for graphic design and his work has been included in exhibitions nationwide. Corporate clients have included Hewlett-Packard, Compaq, Hitachi Data Systems, Cadence, Quantum, and Willow Technology. Nonprofit clients include Arts Council Silicon Valley, Works/San José, San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles, and Association for Viet Arts. Individual projects include a wide range of material from corporate identity to symbols and icons, print communications, and environments. Joe is also known in the local performance scene for his multimedia spoken word performances. He is on the Boards of Directors of Poetry Center San José and Works/San José.
