Joe Michaud's Summary
I began my career on the content side of newspapers and magazines before moving to the business side of online media in 1995, when I helped launch MaineToday.com. Affiliated with three newspapers and a TV station, MaineToday was recognized as a pioneer in original online content, community engagement and successful online business models, while also creating new approaches for cross-media collaboration.
Since 2008, I have been working with media companies and entrepreneurs as a business coach and consultant.
In 2011-12, I was brought on as one of three coaches of the experimental SuperCamp program for U.S. local news entrepreneurs, funded by the Knight and Patterson foundations. The success of that program led Knight to fund an expansion of the program in 2013, renamed Community Journalism Executive Training (CJET), and we have now conducted four trainings and followup mentorships, most recently under the auspices of the Investigative News Network. More than 75 entrepreneur journalists have now gone through the program.
I volunteer as a mentor in Maine's Top Gun entrepreneur training program, and have my own startup, ConcertRat.com.
