Washington D.C. Metro Area
I am currently an SES-level political appointee in the Obama Administration. At the Commerce Department, I run the Trade Promotion Coordination Committee. My team is focused on helping U.S. companies create jobs through increasing exports. We coordinate policy between 20 government agencies and advise the Secretary of Commerce and the Undersecretary for International Trade on export promotion. Working hard and having fun - it's a once in a lifetime opportunity.
Prior to joining Commerce, I spent ten years in senior business development and international sales/operations positions for a number of Silicon Valley start-up companies, including Friendster, VideoEgg, and Apptera. I have lived and worked in six countries, and have built and run online business units with tangible results: completed over 200 cross-border internet and e-commerce deals completed, ran sales teams that delivered over $50M in global revenue, and opened sales offices in England, Australia, the Philippines, Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur. I am also the Managing Partner of The Katama Group, LLC, a consulting firm that provides international expansion strategic advisory services to start-up companies. Numerous presentations on consumer internet/Web 2.0 business models, international expansion, online video/social networking, etc. Quoted in The Wall Street Journal, Wired, The Guardian, BusinessWeek and other publications.
Prior to working in Silicon Valley, I ran business development in Tokyo and Sydney for AOL and practiced corporate and securities law in London with Linklaters, a British law firm. I am a member of the New York, Massachusetts and District of Columbia bars, and is also a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales.
