My dog Rusty, a golden retriever, is a registered therapy dog with Therapy Dog Inc.(TDI). He has logged in over 200 hours of volunteer service to the community since 2008. We are members of PAWS. I am his handler but he does all the therapy work. We currently spend time at Mission Hospital, Mission Children's Hospital, Jone's Elementary School (the kids read to Rusty), Jewish Community Center, University of North Carolina-Asheville, Western Carolina University, Mountain Area Health Education Center (MAHEC), and Camp Bluebird (cancer survivors camp).
Though this is 100% volunteer position, working with PAWS (Paws with a Purpose) has been a very rewarding experience for the both of us. The therapy dog program at Mission Hospital has grown tremendously and just recently celebrated its 10th anniversary.
