I work for the UK's largest commercial archaeological practice with a dual role in Information Systems and Geomatics. In Information Systems I work on application support and development, mainly in the area of web-based GIS, provide front-line support for an office of 40 people. In Geomatics I help manage large and small-scale projects.
My aim is to get software and data to everyone who needs it. An open approach seems best for this long-term- open source software, and open access and standards for data.
Database design and maintenance- both desktop (Microsoft Access) and server-based (Mysql, Postgresql).
Desktop GIS (ArcGIS, GvSIG, Quantum GIS) for spatial analysis and cartography.
Web-based GIS including servers such as Mapserver and Geoserver, Services such as WMS and WFS, front-ends such as Openlayers, Google Maps and Mapguide Open Source.

I undertake IT support and applications development, GIS, database, and web-based, and help manage small and large-scale GIS projects. I am actively involved in promoting the company's move towards a more open philosophy- open access to data, open standards, and open source software, helping to develop the workflows and protocols that make this process happen. My main interest is in making GIS software and data available to people, to make their work easier and more enjoyable.
