J.J. Long’s Summary
Since graduating from the University of NH with a B.A. in Liberal Arts in 2003, Long has had a very fruitful art career and has been surviving solely off of his oil painting since early 2006. He makes his living from selling his oil paintings at gallery shows, open studios, art festivals, and coffee shops all over the state and also from being hired to do commission work for clients. Long is a member of the Melrose Arts and Cultural Association (MACA) and also the Salem Arts Association where he has garnered some great exposure. His work can also currently be seen at the “Hourglass Art & Gift Gallery” in Melrose, MA, and the “Artist Row” art gallery in Salem, MA.
Long’s work is representational artwork made through flat brush work that incorporates a photo realist quality. The surfaces of his paintings are for the most part smooth with a little bit of texture to add additional depth to the painting. He enjoys compositions that present eccentric angles, vivid color combinations, and intense value shifts. Some of his influences are Edward Hopper, Carravagio, and Salvador Dali to name a few.
