IEEE Accomplishments – As an IEEE volunteer I have maintained a focus on programs since value begins with deliverables. New and innovative programs keep interest in IEEE and promote expanded volunteerism. I have introduced programs that focus on Entrepreneurship, Public Policy, and new student activities that are the seeds that help to make IEEE relevant to the membership. I have also encouraged participation in local government and use of survey tools to engage the membership. I have served as a Professional Activities Chair, Section Vice Chair, Section Chair, Region Government Activities Director, and IEEE-USA Vice President for Professional Activities. I have been active on committees for R&D Policy, Government Activities and Entrepreneurship. Working with others, we did a first time Tech Week event, maintained membership in the local Chambers of Commerce, expanded focus on public policy, and opened events to the general technical community. I have also maintained a Section level focus on pre-college education with chapter incentive programs, local scholarships, and support for pre-college activities. I have worked to connect the Section to the Region, Section to local technical chapters with joint events, and expand member participation in national level activities.
Statement – The Region is uniquely positioned to provide linkage for members to the regional, national, and international stature of IEEE. We need to make IEEE membership continuously attractive as members move from student all the way to life member with focus on critical transition points like student to member. The online community should be streamlined. We need to create the most value for members by linking between academics (including student chapters), technical chapters, and industry.
