Jim Duncan’s Summary

I am a Realtor in Charlottesville, Virginia, a real estate blogger, public speaker, early adopter of emerging technologies and skilled at effective implementation of same.

I write about real estate on several blogs - locally in Charlottesville, for the State Realtor Association's blog and nationally for AgentGenius, covering everything from local growth, politics and real estate trends and market analysis to trends affecting Realtors and consumers from a state and national perspective.

Always looking for new technologies and career opportunities and am always willing to listen to new ideas.

I am an advocate for the elimination of Dual Agency, a real estate analyst (so-called by a local publication), consultant, and staunch defender of my clients' positions.

Jim Duncan’s Specialties:

Technology implementation, negotiation, listening, dedication to my clients, intimate expert knowledge of the local real estate market and the influencing factors.

Jim Duncan’s Experience

  • Realtor

    Nest Realty Group

    (Real Estate industry)

    February 2009Present (10 months)

Being part of a small new real estate company in this economy is exciting. We have shared values, shared goals and each are fiercely independent.

The real estate brokerage model as it was known two and three and thirty years ago is broken. Nest is our attempt to represent the new breed of Realtors - those who listen to and respond to consumers' demands.

    - We don't do Dual Agency.
    - We do either Exclusive Buyer Representation or Seller Representation.
    - We use technology in ways that no others do.
    - We want to empower the consumer.
    - We do not fear the consumers having the same information we have.
    - We don't have significant overhead.

  • Contributing Author/Blogger

A contributing author to Agent Genius, a national real estate magazine.

  • Real estate blogger

    RealCentralVa.com

    (Real Estate industry)

    January 2005Present (4 years 11 months)

The first and longest-running real estate blog in the Charlottesville, Virginia region.

Daily analysis and commentary on the Charlottesville and Central Virginia real estate market, widely respected by local Realtors, media and the public for its candor, market reports and opinions.

Educating clients, prospective clients and readers is one of the greatest benefits of this job.

Networking with other real estate bloggers locally, around the state and nationwide through participation on other blogs brings tremendous value to my real estate practice.

  • Realtor

    Century 21 Manley Associates, Inc.

(Privately Held; 51-200 employees; Real Estate industry)

    July 2001Present (8 years 5 months)

    - Client representation - Buyer Agency, Seller representation, client advocate and consultant.

    - Listening to my clients' needs and wants & helping guide them to make the right decisions.

    - Leverage and implement technology to work for my clients, but have not lost focus of the fact that this is a high-touch, "people" business.

    - I have a sincere passion for this business, and I hope it shows in all that I do - that passion to improve my business and the profession is the primary reason I choose to serve on the Committees and Boards that I do.

    While a Realtor I have served -
    - Chair of the local Realtor Association's Gov't Affairs Committee and its Board of Directors.
    - State Realtor Association's Public Policy & Governance Committee & the Strategic Planning Committee
    - NAR- Presidential Advisory Group tasked with analyzing the Future of the MLS, a PAG tasked with raising the level of Realtors' Professionalism; the Professional Standards Committee.

Various annual production awards for the past six years, customer service awards, a local Realtor Association award for service to the Association.

One of the top 100 Realtors, based on production, in the Charlottesville MLS for the past several years.

(Awards are mostly meaningless in my mind. The finest reward for me is the trust my clients put in me and the ability to provide for my family. Not that I haven't received any, they are piled up on a shelf.)
