Director of Marketing & Business Development
Greater Pittsburgh Area
Began my career in the editorial and production departments of international business and legal publisers (Prentice Hall / Simon & Schuster / Aspen Publishers / Wolters-Kluwer). Worked there full-time from 1993-96, then as a contractor until 2002.
In 1997, I accepted a marketing / BD position within a regional Deloitte office for whom I wrote 100+ large-scale audit, tax, and IT consulting proposals ranging in fees from roughly $50,000 to $4 million.
Since 1993, I'd been involved in electronic publishing (CD-ROMs / web site development, etc). Because of this interest, I took an Internet management position at an international association of environmental scientists. From 1999-2001, I learned to manage larger-scale, database-driven web sites. They soon promoted me to Sr. Manager in charge of all organizational marketing communications and Internet development.
In 2001, I accepted an offer from a regional CPA and consulting firm to lead their marketing and business development functions (my current role).
Additionally, since the mid-1990s, I've been a freelance / contract-based writer, editor, publisher, marketer, web developer, PR consultant, and project manager (averaging $20k or so annually in billable work). I also serve on the board of directors of the Botanic Garden of Western Pennsylvania (currently serving as finance committee chairman during the kick-off of a $30 million capital campaign).
Accustomed to working with top-level execs / owners; comfortable with large-scale projects & budgets; impeccable project mgmt., research, writing, interpersonal / diplomatic skills; strong business mgmt. exp. (negotiating, budgeting, scheduling, team building, developing partnerships, forecasting / modeling, analysis, supervising, interviewing, hiring etc.); presentation exp. (speaking / presenting / teaching); considerable artistic / creative talent; significant Internet development exp.

The Botanic Garden of Western Pennsylvania is an exciting project happening in Pittsburgh right now! The garden will occupy 400+ acres near Settler's Cabin Park. We're currently in the early stages of a $30 million capital campaign and nationally important acid mine drainage reclamation project. I serve as the organization's Finance Committee chairman, and also wrote the organization's business plan in 2006, which has helped secure various grants. I'm currently redesigning the organization's web site.
