I research the ways we tell stories online, and have studied social media, hypertext fiction, weblogs, World of Warcraft, MOOs, electronic literature and spam fiction. My book, Blogging, came out on Polity Press in 2008 and an anthology of critical essays about World of Warcraft I co-edited was published by MIT press earlier the same year. I frequently give talks about social media, blogs, electronic literature and the web.

I give talks at seminars, conferences and internal workgroups on topics within the general field of current digital culture, and on social media and blogging in particular. I have given talks on corporate blogging to Microsoft Norway, PricewaterhouseCooper, Chess Communications and the Norwegian Advertisers' Union, among others, and on social software in journalism for NRK and Bergens Tidende. I have also frequently given talks about social media, blogging and electronic literature for groups of librarians, literature and media teachers, artists and the general public. Additionally, I write reviews and other popular articles within these areas. I grew up in Norway with Australian parents, so am equally comfortable speaking in English or Norwegian.

I was one of the first academic bloggers, and still use my blog jill/txt (http://jilltxt.net) to publish work-in-progress, research notes, ideas, probings and the occasional personal note. I have also published various academic articles on blogging, including a much-cited definition of weblogs for the Routledge Encyclopedia of Narrative Theory and a book simply titled "Blogging" to be published by Polity Press in 2008.
