I'm a software developer who's interested in leading projects from initial conception to production. Over the years, I've gone from being strictly a coder, to managing other developers and being interested in the entire software life-cycle, particularly the initial requirements gathering and overall design. I've seen the difference it makes when you make a real effort to get the design correct from the beginning, from user interface to DB schema. My development strengths lean more towards database schema design, SQL, and writing code, particularly in Java.

The system was initially implemented using Oracle, but we volunteered to rewrite it as a pilot test for the University switching its DB provider from Oracle to MySQL. Other technologies used in this project: Java, Spring, Tomcat, Ant, SVN.

Co-founder of site for conducting online employment fairs. I was the company's first technical hire and helped build the technology team. I was the leader of middleware development, but worked on all aspects of development. I also automated our build and release process.
The site was originally intended to be a way for students to plan their classes and meet up with other students (pre-Facebook), but the business model changed in pursuit of profit. Still, in the end, I had to vote for the company to finally declare bankruptcy.

Member of team that developed sub-marine cable lay planning/simulation software. This was a stand-alone application that read in and displayed bathymetry and helped the users create a cable-lay plan so the cable wouldn't snap or drop into areas which were likely to cause problems. They would also know how much cable was needed and how long the lay was likely to take.
