I'm an experienced web development manager with an excellent understanding of the techinical, human, and business issues that drive things online. I've built complete systems from scratch, maintained them, and worked with legacy systems as well. I've also put together and managed teams to do these things.
I have in-depth experience with warehousing material handling systems, process flow, and distribution center design.
I've also occasionally been an independent film maker and musician.
I hope to find more ways to combine my skills in business and technology with my love of creative works and independent art.
NOTE: I took most of 2007 off to work on a few humanitarian and personal projects

I was the first software developer at Zappos.com when I was hired. I inherited a well made contractor-built system and took it from there. Over the years I've done too many things to remember: architecture, coding, hiring, and managing a team of 15 developers.
During my tenure the company saw growth from just about nothing to over 500 million dollars in yearly sales. At the end of my stay, I helped in hiring a suitable replacement and successfully transitioned the team to new leadership.
One of my proudest achievements at Zappos was heading up the warehouse automation team for two years. We oversaw the design, construction, and successful launch of a $25M, 400K sqft state-of-the-art distribution center in Shepherdsville Kentucky. Final cost under our direction was about 1/4 of what the original consultants had budgeted.

While at Payme I helped design the original database schema, object abstraction layer, and front end scripts. The company was acquired by PayMyBills.com.

Maintained hundreds of scripts used by hundreds of thousands of people. Also worked as part of a team on an ill-fated project to rewrite the BannerNetwork account control center. It eventually launched, but I learned a lot about what not to do in the process. I turned that knowledge around and rewrote the FastCounter control center in a weekend.

Telepresence was a fun computer animation and video production startup. Using Lightwave 3D and the Video Toaster we produced a New England Emmy nominated demo reel (Graphic Design. I produced about one third of the animated content for the reel and provided original music.
We also provided video effects shots for other local production houses and produced some commercials and corporate videos.
GED, Audio/Video & Computers, 1988 — 1991
That's right, I left high school. But I went on to earn the highest GED score in Massachusetts in 1997. I've always learned best by doing.
