What?! You don't know about FOT? Fistful of Talent (FOT) is a multi-contributor blog written by a group of HR pros, recruiters and other talent consultants. We are a sometimes-snarky and cheeky but always insightful and witty crew of practitioners who write on all things talent.
We also have a fledgling show called FOTv where you can see us riffing off of one another on camera on talent related topics. Check out our Vimeo page here: http://www.vimeo.com/fot.

APCO Worldwide is a DC based public affairs and strategic communications firm. Included among the many accolades and awards we've won is the honor of being named “2007 Large Firm of the Year” by PRNews.
APCO has a wonderful culture and provides countless opportunities to take your career to the next level- it's a great place to work for sure, and we've even been recognized by Washingtonian magazine as such in the past.
Sound interesting? Well, one way to get your foot in the door is through me... so if that's your interest, then get in touch. I'm an Employment Manager with APCO and focus my efforts on our North America offices providing recruiting expertise, managing university relations, and supporting employee relations efforts. Hire and fire 'em... I guess that's one way to look at it.

What a wonderful opportunity to work for the city I lived in and see at the ground level how a city is run and services are provided to its citizens. At the City, I served as the senior HR staffer for the Human Services Department, the city's social service arm. There, I provided expertise across all areas of HR to include: labor relations and contract negotiations, HR program development, HR policy development, conducting and managing EEO and harassment investigations, and fully managing employment activities for the department.

I was once called a slave driver in this role... but that doesn't tell you nearly enough, does it? At my alma mater, I was part of the University's central HR organization and there, I was responsible for providing consultation and expert advice to my clients regarding the selection and hiring of highly qualified staff. My client base there included:
Law School
Business School
School of Social Work
Undergraduate Education
Student Affairs
University Relations
Minority Affairs
Planning and Budgeting
In addition to being an employment and selection guru, I was also integrally involved in the University's applicant tracking system conversion from Recruitmax to Resumix... and that, was fun.

Med-Data provided me with my first HR position and the opportunity to learn so many facets of the function. I had the opportunity to do everything from managing FMLA for over 20 states to developing an exit interview program, significant HR policy work, overhauling employee recognition programs, managing corporate employee communication efforts and implementing a telecommuting program.
This was a wonderful opportunity to learn and grow in what became my career path. I'll always be grateful to them for that opportunity.
