Since 1999, I've experimented with behavior change for organizations and managed 12 interns.

Engage City staff to buy green, use less-toxic pest management, recycle toxics

San Francisco Dept. of Environment

2007Present (5 years)

Despite letters from the Mayor and SFE in 2007-10, only 6 departments accepted invites for Buy Green Trainings and none chose Buy Green Leaders.

In 2011, 38 departments participated in consultations and chose Buy Green Leaders after these new strategies:
- Partnered with SFE Climate Team, which provided in-kind outreach.
- Created online survey that instantly shows Buy Green Score to motivates staff to be greener before they submit it.

Trained over 1,300 staff through over 50 consultations. 200 staff surveyed thought it was funny and helpful.

Led the creation of SFApproved.org to make it easier for you to buy green.

Helped create green contract technical specifications with consultants, vendors, end users and Office of Contract Administration for lighting and industrial lubricants/motor oil.

Managed two consultants and eight interns, including providing public speaking, job and conference opportunities.

Helped fundraise part of $1M budget for leadership, environmental education and arts for youth. Initiated fundraising internships and managed three interns.

Helped develop fundraising strategies, and write direct mail solicitations. Wrote and managed public and private sector grants; and assisted with grant budgeting.

Secured buy-in to switch to carpet from recycled bottles with low toxic off-gassing; compostable cutlery, organic food, safer cleaners, vendor that prints on 100% post-consumer recycled paper with soy-based inks.

Assisted with and received a week-long fundraising training only available to international women’s foundations.

In 2001, few colleges had permanently funded student groups to reduce the campus' entire environmental footprint. That's why I started SEC.

Initiated a needs assessment of unsuccessful student attempts to green the campus. Created a central agency to make diplomatic recommendations to administrators.

Designed bylaws and the organizational structure.

Got 88% of 2,838 students to vote for UCSC to commit to the Kyoto Protocol.

Started UCSC’s 1st Annual Campus Earth Summit to create a strategic plan. Convened the Mayor of Boulder, CO as keynote; 40 administrators and 15 student leaders.

Established internships with academic credit and managed three interns.
