Interaction Design is a combination of technological concerns and humanistic concerns. I am predominantly focused on humanistic activities such as consensus building, fostering innovative thought and bringing stakeholder expectations into alignment. IT project failure occurs for many reasons and the human aspect is just as influential, if not more influential, than technical mishaps. Technology can always be evolved and puzzled through. People must be convinced.
Experience with gathering requirements, ethnographic interviewing methods, observation analysis methods, interface prototyping, conducting formative testing, and the production of succinct recommendation summaries.

Splendid Noise is a sole proprietorship registered in Boston, MA. The name stems from a poetic description of human speech. From the point of view of a computer, speech is noise. For humans, this noise has meaning.
Splendid Noise is a business focused on bringing meaning to the noise. Through partnerships with developers and graphic designers, Splendid Noise will shape your message to match the needs of your clients.
Splendid Noise is a results oriented company. We believe that a great user experience starts with knowing your customer and should continue throughout every subsequent interaction they have with your business. We make technology transparent so that you and your customers can focus on your goals.

The Center for Innovation in Assessment produces printed and online testing materials for K-2 teachers. Their tests are coupled with online reporting facilities that chart student progress.
I was hired to update their website interface and interaction design. The project had a 2 month time limit because they can only bring the system down when school is in recess for the summer.
I started the project with a battery of interviews with representatives of each influential stakeholder group identified in initial meetings with the staff. The interviews lead to an affinity diagramming session with staff and tech support people.
The redesigned web site conforms to legacy system limitations while updating the interaction paradigm. I removed inconsistencies in the interface and redid the information architecture so that task-similar items are grouped. Summative evaluations of the redesign cleared up minor usability issues and established the learnability of the new design.
