I was responsible for taking several video based toys from concept to large scale production , which included FPGA prototypes, developer boards, all RTL coding, simulation, formal verification, software support, documentation, ASIC tape out support, and pilot runs. Time was very short from concept to final production, so the initial effort was focused on designing a base CPU platform and API for each product. This allowed software development to start early in the design phase. With this top down design approach the new hardware modules were added smoothly to the prototype and simulations as soon as they were implemented.
A wide variety of hardware modules designed for these products include: Blitter, DMA engine, SDRAM controller, multistage sigma/delta DACs, ADSR envelope generation, wave table, NTSC and PAL video generation, chunky/planar video tiles, a complete C64 chipset (SID, VIC, PLA, CIA, NMOS 6502), in-circuit debugging and ARM bus interface.

Designed several reference boards for the Kilocore reconfigurable processor, synthesized a due diligence simulation of the VHDL “PipeRench” processor core from Carnegie Mellon University, designed a FPGA and laid out the board for a VOIP phone platform, performed chip bring-up of the prototype Kilocore processor.

Initiated a joint project to design an ATX form factor reconfigurable computer named C1. I was the principal designer and it was manufactured and sold by Individual Computers. The design consisted of a 4 layer board, 1k100 and 1k30 ACEX FPGAs, 12bit RGB VGA port, PS2 mouse and keyboard, LPT port, 2 PCI slots, 2 Amiga clock ports, SDRAM connector, EDO connector, C64 IEC port, dual SID sockets and a 16 bit stereo DAC. The board is still available and currently has several cores available based on older 8-bit computers such as VIC20, C64 and Sinclair.
