jeremy hunsinger’s Summary

My career centers around using information technology to support and encourage development in learning, cultural institutions and systems of governance. I design, build, install, and use a wide variety of open source software to that end. My research centers around ethics, policy, political economy and the meanings found on the internet, its functions, and communities. I also am available for consulting dealing governance of online environments, information policy, community management online, and many other esoteric, but necessary bits of what Aristotle might call 'phronesis' or 'practical wisdom'.

I have over 10 years of experience in web system design and implementation and systems administration. My background includes designing and building systems to manage online encyclopedias, knowledge management systems, and community systems. I tend to be the guy that can solve most basic technical problems in unix-based systems. My experience as system administration of web-servers and mail servers centers on linux, freebsd, solaris and os-x. My technical background is fairly extensive and along the lines of a jack-of-all trades, but master of none type knowledge. I try to be helpful where I can, however, usually helping can best be done by asking good questions and providing more information in order to let the person with the problem find the best solution for their needs. This broad background in internet computing provides the practical experience to ground my policy and governance work.
