A sharp eye with a creative side.
Cleveland/Akron, Ohio Area
Hi everyone.
Well, I moved to Cleveland from Athens in June, and have been working with customers at Renewal by Andersen since July.
Back up a little.
I graduated in June 2008 from Ohio University's E.W. Scripps School of Journalism with a bachelor's in online journalism. I stuck around and worked at The Athens Messenger/Vinton County Courier as a copy editor until the end of May 2009. That position included editing stories and photographs as well as paginating my little fingers off. (I understand and sort of cherish the irony in working as a paginator with a degree in online journalism.)
As a freelancer, I'm primarily interested in editing copy, and I love paginating (brochures, fliers -- you name it). I also would love to break into photography and gain experience in writing copy. Feel free to send me a message if I can be of help to your publication.
My strengths: I'm an editor in every sense of the word, I'm level-headed, and I'm a quick learner.
I have references and my work at the ready if you're interested.
Macromedia, Adobe Suite, AP style, selecting and editing photos/video/audio, paginating (mostly with Quark), being courteous, content management systems, delivering flowers.

July 2009 — Present (5 months)
At Renewal's Cleveland showroom, I assist customers who are planning on replacing their windows. I explain our products and installation process, set the customers up with an in-home appointment with a sales representative and leave them with the proper literature. I also help out with various office duties, set up service appointments and appear at mobile events.
(Retail industry)
December 2008 — May 2009 (6 months)
At Hyacinth Bean, I exercised my creative muscle simply by being around beautiful things about 10 hours a week. I learned the basics of arranging flowers and how to get them ready for sale, and kept the shop organized. I took orders, helped customers and also delivered arrangements. I still have a lot to learn about plants and flowers, but the seed has been planted, so to speak.
(Newspapers industry)
July 2008 — May 2009 (11 months)
As a copy editor, I selected and edited news stories from a wire, edited local stories, and paginated newspaper pages. I also updated the newspaper's Web site with stories and photos. I'm used to meeting firm deadlines and keeping in constant communication with reporters and other editors.

July 2008 — May 2009 (11 months)
At The Courier, which is a sister paper of The Messenger, I kept track of a new reporter, edited local stories and reader-submitted content, and paginated newspaper pages. I got good at being flexible, even with a deadline looming.

November 2005 — August 2008 (2 years 10 months)
As a member of the Guest Services department, I answered the main information line for Ohio University and transferred calls to their proper destination if necessary. I also directed students toward events and campus buildings. I did not leave any prospective student's questions unanswered. This job required composure under pressure, a cheerful personality and the ability to multi-task.
(Privately Held; Newspapers industry)
June 2007 — August 2007 (3 months)
At Dispatch.com, I kept an eye on the news wire to grab and edit stories for the breaking news section of the Web site. I also wrote summaries of new or updated sections of the Web site for the print editions.
(Public Company; Writing and Editing industry)
June 2006 — August 2006 (3 months)
At NewsNet5.com, I edited broadcast transcripts to be suitable for the Web site. I uploaded those stories and video clips as well as screen shots or other photos. I edited the video clips and photos myself.
BSJ , Online journalism , 2004 — 2008
I worked as Web director of ACRN.com, the student-run All-Campus Radio Network, and held weekly disc jockey shifts.
I was a copy editor and became copy chief of Speakeasy Magazine, Ohio University's only student-run online magazine.
Great fonts, creative music, old furniture, innovative publications, cute dogs, riding bikes, food of any type, orderliness (I admit), good lighting.
