I tend to wear many differant hats.
I am VERY involved in Cancer Advocacy, research and speaking, in my free time as I am a cancer SURVIVOR! When I was 23 I was diagnosed with Stage 2A Cervical Cancer. I was 23, found out that there was a 98% chance I would never have children, the only support group I could find was one where everyone was in their 50’s or older, and I had never felt so alone before in my life. I had no one to turn to that would understand what I was going through. Not my family, not my friends, not even the people in my support group! Now skip forward a few years..... I was cruising the internet one day wanting to find a local cancer group that I could get involved with. Then I stumbled upon the I'm too young for this (i[2]y) web site. OMG there ARE others like me out there!!! It was like a light had brightened in my life. I knew THIS was what I wanted to do. That I needed to speak out on Cancer! And now we bring ourselves to the present. In March of 2008 I finally hit my 5 year mark. Five years cancer free! I am not only Co-Chair for i[2]y in the state of FL but I am also the on the Board of Directors for the Florida Breast Cancer Foundation , these are on top of my Day to Day job with CNA Insurance. With all of my Cancer advocacy I get to attend conferences and events; I get to speak about something I feel so passionately about; I get to pass on the knowledge I have gained to people in search of help. To people who were just like me five years ago. People who are young, scared, and also confused. People that think they are at the end of the road and that have never felt so alone before in their lives. This is where I step in. I get to be the one that reaches out to them, that gives them my hand and lets them know that no matter what, they are not alone!
