Since completing my doctorate in the late 1990s I have had successive opportunities to experience a wide range of challenges in the commercial environments in which I have worked, offering me a fast grounding in the factors and work which needs to be done to make a success of the organisations I have worked within.
My goals are to continue my professional development, seeking greater P&L responsibility and opportunities to demonstrate my capabilties and thereby deliver benefit to the organisation and our customers.

The UK Defence Forum exists to inform the defence, security and peace debate by enabling politicians, diplomats, senior members of the armed forces, public servants, industrialists, academics and others with an interest in defence and security to exchange information and views on the future needs of Britains' defence, by preparing and publishing research papers, including the Defence Viewpoints blog, and by facilitating study visits. It is a non-partisan and not-for-profit organisation which holds no views of its own.

Green-field role appointed by CEO and CFO to develop an Investor Relations function managing external advisers and working internally to identify, monitor, support and meet with institutional and individual investors in the PLC.

Recruited at the PLC level to assist in corporate development - ranging from corporate strategy, bid winning activities in the defence (c.£600m, $1,200m) and civil nuclear decomissioning arena (£200m, $400m), market shaping, government relations, acquisition screening, execution and integration (£90m, $180m acquisition of a listed company in 2004 / £45m, $90m acquisition of a VC owned business in 2005, and £350m, $700m acqusition in 2007), research, analysis.
More recently, as Head of Investor Relations working for directly for senior management aimed at fostering stronger relations with a more diversified shareholder base. In six months reworked the annual report to meet DTR requirements, wrote a class I circular to raise £90m ($180m) at a 2.5% discount to the share price, executed a strategic campaign to engage with institutional shareholders and enhance analyst coverage.

P&L Responsibility globally for three teams comprising a dozen consultants in Europe, Asia and North America generating revenues of some £3m, $6m at high margin. Client base in private and public sector from resource extraction, automotive, government and defense industries.

Worlds first strategy consulting firm formed in 1868 and parent of Bain and Boston Consulting Group. My role in the London office of ADL with the strategy & organisation in meeting the needs of clients in the private and public sector. Personally won a £250k/$500k consulting contract. Specialised in the telecommunications, government, defense & aerospace sectors.
-Developing merger options for the Scandinavian Aerospace and Defence Group, CelsiusTech of Sweden, prior to its successful sale 40% above book value ($475million).
·Advising the Defence Vehicles Division of Fiat on strategic options.
·Due diligence for the $800m acquisition by Baxi PLC of Myson.
·Advising Orange, Marconi, KPN and FirstMark on emerging technology markets.
·Due diligence of a $200m new stadium plan for Galatasaray in Istanbul.
Global responsibility advising consultants on 'exotic methodologies' in support of client engagements such as scenario planning techniques, game theory and systems thinking.

Funded by a publicly competed scholarship to study at Cranfield university, Royal Military College of Science (RMCS) (now part of the Defence Academy), my research looked at theories of strategic decision making applied to complex organisations to understand the forces which shape strategic decision making and resource allocation.

Masters degree at the world's oldest school of International Politics, founded shortly after the World War One with the Woodrow Wilson chair. The course focused on teaching strategic concepts affecting how governments, businesses and other organisations operate in a complex, changing world.
BA (Hons) , International Relations , 1991 — 1994
Undergraduate degree concerned with International Relations - history, economics, business, politics, security and conflict studies. My third year dissertation was into the subject of the arms trade and the middle east.
