Jeff Gartner’s Summary

Jeff Gartner is a senior technology manager and visionary having spent more than 25 years in the industry. His experiences have included building the world's first smartphone, the first online mall as well as the first B2B eMarketplace. Jeff's experiences include semiconductor test methodologies, email system architectures and several eBusiness related areas. His vision and creativity in prototyping early practical uses of internet technology, was a driver to the formation of IBM's internet initiatives. He also was a ground-floor contributor to the overall emergence of eCommerce and developed the first product/service ever delivered by IBM's "turnaround" Internet Division.

Jeff is a seasoned manager of people and has built large, loyal and highly productive cross-disciplined teams. He has managed numerous full life cycle products and services and consistently delivers on-time and on-budget. He is currently in the CTO's office of Avaya developing their strategy for unified communications and emerging technologies.

Before joining Avaya, Jeff was Vice President of Development and Technology Strategy at Baker & Taylor, the nation's largest distributor of books and entertainment media where he was the acting CTO and developed their ecommerce and content management strategies.

At Computer Associates (now CA), Jeff had been Vice President of the newly formed, Emerging eBusiness Solutions Strategy division, that helped refocus CA's product direction to be solutions focused.

Before joining CA, Jeff held various management positions at IBM; most recently as Senior Development Manager of divisions that built scalable versions of the Websphere Commerce product. He was also responsible for developing a B2B eMarketplace service for wholesalers to trade with distributors. As an advisory engineer at IBM, Jeff was the lead architect for early mobile computing projects as well as for developing test methodologies and software for testing and debug of semiconductors.
