Life Transition Network

February 2010September 2010 (8 months)

The Life Transition Network is an innovative, community communication initiative to provide easy, multimedia access to information that can help to empower, mobilize and engage the 25% of Delaware County's population 50+ in programs and activities that contribute to their quality of life and to the betterment of the community. The Life Transition Network meets the need by aggregating pertinent info, integrating the info into manageable categories and disseminating the information through the Internet, community television and radio, local newspapers and an existing network of public facilities such as libraries and senior centers. This multimedia approach, with a designated website as the principal aggregator of information, will match the preferred sources of information of a diverse age group. Daily/ weekly newspapers in Delaware Co. are cooperating by publishing Life Transition columns on a regular basis. To reach the Boomer cohort, we are using the Internet, an Internet radio program and local TV. To help revitalize the senior centers and to attract more Boomers to the county's 29 public libraries, we plan to install computer kiosks that will be part of a network of Life Transition Centers. Eventually, as the program matures and becomes more pervasive throughout the community, we plan to incorporate the increasingly ubiquitous cell phone technology to disseminate information. In cooperation with principal partners - including Coming of Age, RSVP, Delaware County Chamber of Commerce, Main Line Chamber of Commerce, United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania and Crozer-Keystone Health System - the Life Transition Network will become the authoritative source for timely, complete information for older adults concerning employment, lifelong learning, volunteerism and lifestyle choices. We believe that, when fully operational, the life Transition Network will be the only comprehensive community communication initiative of its kind for older adults in the country.
