I plan, assign and edit content for the Arts component of the Arts & Entertainment section of buzz Weekly, an alternative weekly. I keep up with current events in Champaign-Urbana concerning the arts and stage productions and cover them accordingly.
I manage a staff of nearly 20 writers by assigning and collecting stories and story ideas from them. I hold monthly meetings to collectively brainstorm ideas as well as update writers about what the editorial board has been discussing.
buzz Weekly has recently undergone a redesign during Summer 2009. As a result, planning, assigning and editing content has also been redesigned. Content is now tighter, and one in-depth feature story per section is emphasized.
