Coming up to 30 years in IT, starting in hardware moving on to assembler, C, C++ and then Java.
I started consulting in '87, mostly in wholesale banking, over 10 years was spent abroad (from the UK), including Hong Kong, USA (Washington D.C.) Germany, Switzerland, France, Sweden, Denmark and even Luxembourg.
I moved back to the UK in 1998 and started Century 24 (C24) with 3 others in July 2000. C24 specialised in investment banking integration, predominately SWIFT, FpML and ISO-20022. We sold C24 to Iona Technologies (NASDAQ:IONA) in March 2007, Iona was then sold to Progress Software in September 2008.
My expertise is investment banking architecture, from enterprise to global. I've run the trading systems at Paribas, headed up global Architecture at BNP Paribas and been the global head of architecture at JP Morgan Chase.
Currently I consult to several companies, advising typically on scaling up their systems ($5-50m companies) and integration in acquisitions and mergers (large investment banks post credit-crunch). I am on the advisory board of several medium-sized companies and start-ups.
I am a regular speaker at The ServerSide Symposiums, Java, SOA, WebServices and HPC on Wall St., IDC, JavaOne, Q/Con, JAOO, JavaPolis, Devoxx, JavaZone etc.
I live in London but travel a lot, typically to the US every 2-3 weeks (mostly NY and Ca.), Europe, the Middle East and occasionally the Far East.
I have 3 wonderful sons (Luc 10, James 8 and Pierre 6) who take up most of my spare time and a gorgeous French wife who makes it all worthwhile.
I can be reached on +44 7770 697272 or by private email at John at John T Davies dot com.
