Jim Spencer’s Summary

*First Job
My career began with Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts in the rooms division and food and beverage in Santa Barbara, CA and Nevis, West Indies. In Boston, I worked with the number two at the Westin Hotel, Copley Place managing the annual and 5 year capital budgets and hotel lobby and restaurant renovations.

*Technology
I attended Clark University's MCSE program in 1997. Upon graduation I worked with a MSP and within six months passed all MCSE exams on the first go.

At Scudder Kemper Investments I built 30 Compaq Servers and sent them around the country, managing them remotely. Later as the Unix administrator, I worked with DNS and bringing new HP and Sun servers online. My final project was a $6.5M disaster recovery project involving 2 HP V class servers in a cluster connected to an EMC array with a Sybase database. There was about $147B in managed assets on the system.

Corporate mergers led to my lay off and short stint at a small technology firm in Burlington. This included a lot of travel and utilized my background in Unix, Windows and databases.

In 2002 I started my own business providing web site design, search marketing and related servies.

*Entrepreneur
In November, 2003 I began developing a new Chapter of BNI here in Winchester. I have since left BNI.

In 2004, in collaboration with the director of the Winchester Public Library we formed a local group of entrepreneurs called Networking @ the Library with over 500 members. Each meeting includes speakers of interest and time for networking.

In 2008 my first guest article, titled, "Is Twitter for the Birds?" was published on High Rankings Advisor was read by tens of thousands of readers.

Also in 2008 my first speaking engagement titled "Your small biz website: Light the fuse or thank the Muse? " was at the eBusiness Symposium in Arlington, MA.

In 2009 JBS Partners started our first BuddyPress social networking website for a large university in CA.
