*First Job
My career began in the hospitality industry, with Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts. I held positions in the rooms division and food and beverage in Santa Barbara, California and Nevis, West Indies. In Boston, I worked with the number two in the Westin Hotel, Copley Place managing the annual and 5 year capital budgets and the renovation of the Hotel Lobby and restaurants.
*Technology
I attended Clark University in 1997 to make an avocation a vocation. Upon graduation I found work with a MSP and within six months passed all MCSE exams on the first go.
At Scudder Kemper Investments I built about 30 Compaq Proliant Servers and sent them around the country, managing them remotely. In time, I became the Unix administrator, working with DNS and bringing new HP and Sun servers online. My final project was a $6.5M disaster recovery project involving 2 HP V class servers in a cluster connected to an EMC array with a Sybase database running on it. There was about $147B in managed assets on the system.
Corporate mergers led to my lay off and short stint at a small technology firm in Burlington. This included a lot of travel and utilized my background in Unix, Windows and databases.
Two lay offs was enough. In 2002 I started my own business providing web site design, hosting, domain names, search engine optimization and most other services required to get a business online.
*Entrepreneur
In November, 2003 I began developing a new Chapter of Business Networking International, BNI here in Winchester. I have since left BNI.
In 2004, in collaboration with the director of the Winchester Library we formed a local group of entrepreneurs called Networking @ the Library. We have over 500 members. Each meeting includes speakers of interest and time for networking.
In 2007 I began my involvement in social media marketing and enjoy attending local events in related subjects. That means actually meeting the folks I interact with online.
