My first real job out of high school was as a guard for the Texas Department of Corrections, which paid for my junior college degree in Telecommunications and a lot of toys!
Then I spent 17 years in radio broadcasting and one hidden year selling cars before starting a business in 2001.
From my humble beginnings as a DJ at a small radio station in Gatesville, Texas I worked in almost every job in radio. After being a DJ, I was a copywriter, then a production director, then an account executive, eventually I was a sales manager (7 1/2 years, my longest stint) and finally back into sales again for the final two years of my radio career (and the most fun).
Along the way, I developed an appreciation of wine which led me to co-found the Heart of Texas Wine and Food Festival in Waco, benefitting the Waco Humane Society. Last year in its 8th year, 1200 people attended.
My appreciation of wine led to me starting the Waco Wine and Food Hour, a radio show I hosted for almost three years on local radio stations. In addition, I helped start the Central Texas Chapter of the Wine Society of Texas. As you can see, I like wine!
When I started The Marketing Spot, I believed I was starting my business. Since that time I have come to realize that I am just a steward of a business that belongs to God. The revelation has freed me from so much stress and has opened doors that only God can open.
The Marketing Spot specializes in working with locally owned, small businesses. Why? Small businesses are the backbone of a community. Small businesses give a community its flavor and character. Without small businesses, every town would look just like every other town.
God has led me on an amazing journey around the world, with mission causes in Bangladesh and India close to my heart.

Was the radio advertising sales manager of KTWX Broadcasting in November of 1996 when GulfStar Communications (an early iteration of Clear Channel) purchased KWTX-FM/AM. From that time until my eventual move back in to sales, I was sales manager of general sales manager of several radio stations.
BBA , Finacial Services and Planning , 1993 — 1999
Finished my degree as a "non-traditional student" in May of 1999 at the age of 37. In '93 I decided that it was time to get my degree. I had a false start at Baylor in '86 and decided that I first needed to be a good husband and provider for my family.
In '93 I realized that if I had stuck it out back in '86, I would have already had my degree. The concept of opportunity cost hit me squarely between the eyes.
