Hi, my name is Jason Shen. I'm a social entrepreneur and passionate about empowering people and galvanizing positive change in society.
I currently drive this mission through a one-year term as Chief Operating Officer of The Stanford Daily Publishing Corp. beginning July 1st, 2009. I'll manage the day-to-day operations and work to regain profitability and bring innovation to our campus newspaper.

Previously, I studied biology (BS, MS) and philosophy (honors thesis) at Stanford University, where I cofounded Gumball Capital, a nonprofit that engages college students with microfinance and entrepreneurship (I now sit on the board). I also competed as a Div I NCAA athlete (was captain of Stanford Men's Gymnastics team when we won the 2009 NCAA team championship).

Beginning July 1st, 2009, I will be responsible for P&L, day-to-day operations, oversee $1M budget, work with editorial staff and sales team to produce quality journalism, and encourage innovation in the newspaper industry.

Designed and initiated course on the theory and application of psychological research into how people make self-driven behavioral changes. Worked with Psychology faculty Greg Walton to create course content, reading assignments, project requirements. Teach 90 minute weekly course and lead class discussion for 36 students.

Gumball Capital is a non profit that engages students with microfinance and entrepreneurship to help fight global poverty.
As Executive Director (Jan 2008 -May 2009), worked across 6 departments to drive projects forwards, manage 15 staffers, present at panels and conferences, and competed in business plan competitions. We went from zero to funding over 500 microloans to developing world entrepreneurs in less than 2 years.
Beginning May 1st 2009, I stepped down as Executive Director and serve on the board of directors.

As captain, led team to win the 2009 NCAA team championship - our first title in 14 years. Was a recruited scholarship athlete who trained over 20 hrs/wk, 50 wks/yr.
Held NCAA ranking of 9th in the all around in 2006. Helped team to a 3rd place title in 2006 and a #1 ranking in the NCAA in 2008.
Previous Jr. National Team member; 4th all-around at 2004 Jr Nationals.
