Joyent Inc is a platform software company that has a number of online applications and provides infrastructure and software to a wide range of other projects and companies.
I am the senior business executive that focuses on technology, this is not the same as the senior technologist or a chief scientist of the company. My role is provide sound advice on business decisions involving technology and I am the strongest, outward-facing advocate of our company's and our partner's technologies.

I founded TextDrive with Dean Allen and bootstrapped it into a profitable 12 person company in it's first year. TextDrive hosted the Ruby on Rails, Wordpress, Textpattern, PunBB and other open source projects, and it's hosting was the first to ever support Ruby on Rails applications. TextDrive then went on to develop some of the early production Ruby on Rails applications (e.g. Strongspace), and in December of 2005 we combined our efforts with Joyent and formed a new "platform" company that had an entire suite of infrastructure, hosting, applications and tools for developers.
