I am a 2006 University at Albany graduate with a BSc in computer science. Since the summer of 2006 I’ve been living in the San Francisco Bay area, pursuing a career in technology. In 2007 I was hired at a stealth start-up, working primarily on front-end code and design. During my time there, I contributed to the construction of a highly scalable, professional networking platform. I used tools such as Perl’s Template Toolkit with valid XHTML, CSS and unobtrusive JavaScript and jQuery. I did some back-end work with Perl scripting using the Catalyst MVC framework and DBIx::Class with MySQL. I’ve been hooked on web development ever since and I am now working as a freelancer in the field. My most recent project has been assisting in the Beta launch of WikPik through coding XHTML, CSS and jQuery and implementing some new features throughout the site.

I have a passion for designing and implementing meaningful, well-structured and accessible XHTML using table-less layout. I love coding by hand. I believe that good and functional page design is dependent on a succinct, maintainable structure of XHTML that leaves all presentational elements within an external CSS file. I use progressive enhancement whenever it makes sense and then put a layer of functionality on top of this using JavaScript (jQuery, Scriptaculous or what-have-you). This aids in the compliance across the browser spectrum and I am well versed in avoiding the bugs in this area and hunting down the ones that inevitably get through.
