Jared M. Stein currently oversees all aspects of the design and development of technology-enhanced course content and educational technology for Distance Education at Utah Valley University (http://www.uvu.edu). Mr. Stein has over 10 years of experience designing, developing, and delivering distance education. His strengths are centered on an extensive professional background in Web development and design, tempered by an academic background in education and teaching.
Mr. Stein teaches online courses on Web design and usability for the Digital Media department at UVU. Mr Stein instructs UVU faculty in the Skills in Teaching with Technology series. He has also taught students and lectured faculty overseas at the Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute.
In 2003 Mr. Stein created the Technology Enhanced Teaching Center at UVU (http://www.uvsc.edu/disted/tetc/) as a teaching-centered technology training and support service to faculty.
Mr. Stein also serves as one of the founding directors of the annual Teaching with Technology Idea Exchange, an "open conference" (http://ttix.org).
Finally, Mr. Stein is an active partner for Modern Education and Technology Associates (Meta), an educational technology and Web development firm (http://metasolutions.us).
CURRENT PROJECTS
Mr. Stein, Mr. Marc Hugentobler, and Mr. John Krutsch are developing and testing a "cheatability" rubric for application to online teaching.
Mr. Stein and Mr. John Krutsch are working to establish and grow an open educational resource movement at UVU. They are currently developing a unique opencourseware modification for the Moodle LMS that bridges a gap between regular online education and opencourseware
Mr. Stein is exploring the concept of Personal Learning Environments (PLE) with Scott Leslie and Chris Lott in preparation for delivering a 2008 WCET workshop.

In addition to my normal duties in Distance Education, I teach part-time for the department of Digital Media. My courses center on Web design and development: I teach DGM 2120: Web Essentials, and DGM 2740: Web Design and Usability. Both of these are fully online courses, though I do step back into the walled classroom from time to time!
