My ongoing involvement with The Greens led to an opportunity to take the first paid
position the Newcastle Greens ever offered. This position was created because of the political climate in Newcastle for the NSW State Election in March 2007. This is also the first campaign the Newcastle Greens have used IT systems, which became a focus of my role.
After Jan 2007, because of budget constraints the position was made part time
however I continued to volunteer additional time to the role.
Duties included:
• Co-ordinating Volunteers
• Training volunteers to use the IT systems in place.
• Assisting with organisation of fundraising and PR events
• Assisting with organisation of media conferences
• Managing Membership Database/Booking System
• Managing the Newcastle Greens web presence
• Assisting NSW Greens with IT

2002 — 2005 (3 years)
Commencing in 2002 as a Senior UNIX (Solaris, Linux, AIX) Administrator on the
Newcastle UNIX Support team which is considered CSC's Australian Solaris Centre of Excellence.
In mid 2003 I was appointed a secondary role as the UNIX Security contact for this
support team. This role expanded into active involvement with both the Australian
and Global UNIX Security teams.
These security teams identified a requirement for better security auditing on our UNIX servers globally (CSC manages over 10,000 UNIX servers globally). I was appointed as the main developer for this project (Harden).
Harden incorporates a client side system for each of the UNIX variants supported by CSC and a server based component providing web based reporting and exemptions to security policy.
