Jan De Coster’s Summary

I started developing internet projects in 1996, after studying Industrial Engineering and Physics. From 1998 to 2001 I ran my own webdesign studio in Antwerp, where I did not only work on classic online advertising projects. These projects varied from artistic in nature, like real time VJ-performances, to highly functional, like the Damage Control System for the fregats of the Belgian Navy. With this very wide experiences I started working at the international advertising agency, BBDO, in 2002.

In the beginning my work was mainly technical in nature. I developed online games, an other interactive experiences. I gradually grew in more conceptual work and strategic planning. Next to this, interactive projects also stepped in the real world, with live interactive installations and digital signage projects. With the arrival of web 2.0 this became one of my focus points. Over the last few years I received a number of national and international advertising awards for his concepts and productions at BBDO.

In 2007 I started working for CPZ (Centrum ter Preventie van Zelfdoding), as an online communication advisor. In the last year this resulted in various banner campaigns and a complete redesign of their websites.
In 2008 we started the Prevention 2.0 project, to search for suicide messages in social networking platforms, and try to create a suitable response.
