[Been having loads of fun with a Sharepoint portal that uses the site variations feature to deliver multilingual content to tens of countries for a FTSE 100 company. It is a challenging bit of technology to use on occasion, but once you get used to the quirks you realise it's an excellent feature to have available.]

[When there's a novel client problem that needs solving with a Microsoft platform, I'm often the guy who gets the opportunity to roll up my sleeves to do or to teach, or both. Never a dull moment as they say. Very excited by the developments coming out of Redmond these days. I can often be heard evangelising about the benefits of .NET or Sharepoint to collegues and clients.]

[An ex-collegue tells me that my reference data engine for 'More Than' is still being used in anger. So, my work has been used to help literally millions of clients. Who could ask for more?]
Science Teaching 1994 — 1995
This year really taught me how to present technical material to a (sometimes) hostile audience. Tens of lessons a week, taking care of the health and safety of my charges when the nasty chemicals or the electricity were on display. I was made of stronger steel after being tempered in this particular forge.
BSc(Hons), Engineering Physics, 1990 — 1994
For academic study Physics was my one true love. It doesn't get any bigger or better and was immensely enjoyable.
The course included a rewarding 1-year full time position as a scientist at ICI ImageData, Manningtree, UK, researching novel laser printing techniques. Wouldn't change that year for the world, but it did make me realise that carving out a lifelong career in Physics wouldn't be the best direction for me.
If you're not cut out to be a great experimentalist or theorist either, it's time to be honest with yourself and do something else.
