Built a working business around the concept of providing residents free access to local community web sites. Local businesses must pay for their pages, but at rates far lower than any other media.
The sites are focussed on the residents and organisations, hence there are no banner ads or pop-ups on the site.
The best Neighborhood Guides find the site themselves and volunteer to create interesting content; a lot of work has been put into the automation and management of the site and the Guides.
After being tested in three Metro areas, the site is optimized and ready to go nationwide with 3,000 sites. It is hosted on a state-of-the-art 3 node web farm that can handle 30m page views a month. Traffic passed 1m page views per month in September 2003. -
