For the first phase of my career as a librarian, I developed expertise in the development, support, and management of systems designed specifically to facilitate the delivery of library services. These included library automation, bibliographic cataloging systems, and literature databases. I'm proud to be called a librarian; to be part of a profession that is committed to bringing people together through the sharing of information.
In the past several years my experience has broadened into enterprise information managment, bringing librarian perspectives to intranet portals, content management systems, taxonomies, and websites. The book, "Information Architecture for the World Wide Web" by Rosenfeld and Morville epitomizes this librarian/webmaster perspective and has been a guiding light in this phase of my career.
I'm also very proud of my background in the arts, specifically my music degree. It is my belief in the importance of creativity that informs every contribution, every decision I make in my job. In music composition you develop expertise in a highly structured language and use that language to push the boundries of what is known, all in the service of creating something beautiful that hopefully will make a difference.
I value my career as long as I feel I'm able use the skills and perspectives that I value most; and in applying them, make a positive difference to my organization's customers and to the colleagues I work with every day.
