(4) Established Better Nutrition magazine as one of the nation's authorities on healthy eating.
(5) On behalf of the magazine, sought, negotiated and secured key content licensing and aggregation/syndication agreements.

Managed two monthly medical journals for Reed Elsevier: the American Journal of Surgery and the American Journal of Medicine. Oversaw the entire editorial process, which involved managing the work of in-house staff, proofreaders and copy-editors. Responsibilities included: complex line-editing under strict house guidelines, writing article summaries, and editing on-line. Made frequent contact with article authors and with the medical editorial offices. Represented the American Journal of Surgery at the 1993 ACS Clinical Congress, in San Francisco.

Responsibilities included: copyediting and proofreading; working with in-house acquisition editors, author/volume editors, artists, copywriters, internal DTP staff, outside compositors (sending manuscripts out for cast-off and estimate), freelance vendors; and interior book design (typographical specs, etc). Performed pre-launch editorial analyses, presented the titles at book-launch meetings and supervised freelance vendors. Book of which Gormley is most proud: Cultural Diversity in Health and Illness (Third Edition, 1991).

Created, wrote and edited a medical-management newsletter for 500+ academic physicians, Clinical Practice Management Plan (CPMP) News. Monitored healthcare reimbursement legislation and news from many sources, and maintained a constant link with Governor Cuomo’s press secretary, Tom Conroy. Set up a database to support a physician-referral phone line (718-MED-SUNY); marketed this service to the local community through major cooperating companies (such as Brooklyn Union Gas) and created a Physician Referral Directory that was distributed to the neighborhood (Bedford-Stuyvesant, Crown Heights, East New York, Flatbush) in support of this effort.
