Sales at Gawker Media
Greater New York City Area
I showed up in NYC less than 4 years ago, and things have been nonstop ever since. My freshman year at NYU I spoke at the MIXX conference during AdWeek, and a silly quote of mine made it into the New York Times. That led me to work for a whole slew of different companies as a consultant on trends, Web 2.0, youth marketing, and viral syndication, among other things. I'm good at finding a niche and then expanding it, both in my self promotion and for the companies I work for. The internet has completely changed how consumers interact with media and each another, so I typically like to capitalize on that. If I'm not ahead of the curve at some point, it's because I'm either stranded on a remote island or in a coma. Hopefully the former.

February 2009 — Present (10 months)
With a year plus worth of ad operations background, the Sales overlords decided I should be selling things...namely our sites. I still bury my nose in analytics and party planning whenever I can, but now I get to contribute to the revenue generating maelstrom that is the Gawker Sales team. Daily activities include brainstorming, media planning, Powerpoint mastery, and perfunctory liver damage.

January 2008 — February 2009 (1 year 2 months)
Everything from ad trafficking to copywriting to party planning...if the sales team needed to make something happen, I was the guy to make sure it did. I was also Gawker's in-house traffic analytics guru, running traffic numbers through Excel and making pretty charts come out.
And occasionally donned a dress for comedic value.

I managed a small team that uses blogs, message boards, and social networking to syndicate a series of viral commercials. I also helped launch a viral prank site for a major car corporation.

June 2006 — September 2008 (2 years 4 months)
I regularly spoke at The Intelligence Group's Trend School, which featured the latest trends, brands, activities, and websites for the 18-25 demographic. Major Fortune 500 companies sent their marketing directors to this day-long seminar to get their finger on the pulse of what's hot and what's up and coming.
(Public Company; Entertainment industry)
April 2006 — August 2008 (2 years 5 months)
I was a regular panelist on the mtvU new music show, The Freshman. I also appeared on mtvU's weekly top 10 show, The Dean's List, as well as various short segments and VJ hits for the station. I also made a few correspondent appearances on TRL.

May 2007 — January 2008 (9 months)
I helped manage website development, researched new trends on blogs and social networks, produced the monthly newsletter and provided technical support both internally and externally. I acted as a project manager for our web portals, which were ultimately complicated web applications that allowed users to post photos, follow leader boards, take polls, post announcements, and send messages. The portals I helped develop are still in use to this day.
(Public Company; 501-1000 employees; Music industry)
January 2007 — May 2007 (5 months)
I got to sit in a glorified closet and listen to new music all day, every day. Pretty much the coolest job ever.
(Privately Held; 51-200 employees; Marketing and Advertising industry)
November 2005 — May 2007 (1 year 7 months)
I offered online grassroots marketing services to promote clients within the blogosphere and message boards. I also occasionally offered consulting services for other youth-oriented, viral syndication marketing campaigns. I was responsible for managing up to 4 grassroot marketers online at any given time.
