Addiction Health Care Consultant and Contractor
Cincinnati Area
I am a retired health care professional with over 25 years experience in emergency room nursing, nurse anesthesia (CRNA), and pain management consulting.
Currently, I am the current chair of the Ohio State Association of Nurse Anesthetists Peer Advocacy for Practitioner Wellness Committee and Senior Peer Advisor. I am a moderator for the private web community, Anesthetists In Recovery (AIR). I am also founder and CEO of my consulting company, Peer Advocacy for Impaired Nurses, LLC, in Cincinnati, Ohio. I provide educational seminars for nurses, anesthesia providers, groups, departments, and training programs in Ohio and nationwide. I also speak to private corporations, church groups and schools (high school and elementary).
Addiction and chemical abuse (this includes alcohol...the single most abused drug) is a leading cause of health problems including, but not limited to auto accidents, falls, domestic violence, liver disease, gastrointestinal disease, cardiac disease, pancreatitis, certain cancers, assault and murder. It s the leading health crisis in this country, and yet it is poorly understood, poorly treated - if at all, and health care insurance refuses to pay for much of the treatment, even though it is a chronic, progressive disease.
My main goal is to provide education to health care professionals as well as the public about the disease of addiction. Prevention is the best way to manage this disease, but our culture refuses to accept this as a DISEASE, despite the scientific evidence! Until attitudes change, this disease will continue to ruin lives, families, businesses and our society. Education is the key to sparking change in attitude.
Motivational and educational seminars, consultation with families of suspected addicts to assist in intervention, consulting with departments of nursing and anesthesia, nurse and nurse anesthesia training programs, and hospitals to develop policies and procedures to deal with employees who are afflicted with the disease of addiction.

Peer Advocacy for Impaired Nurses, LLC was founded in order to assist nurses and nursing students struggling with substance abuse and chemical dependence. Despite the fact that the World Health Organization acknowledged alcoholism as a serious medical problem in 1951, and the American Medical Association declared alcoholism as a treatable illness in 1956, the chemically dependent individual is still seen as immoral and weak willed. The health care community also continues say it's a disease while refusing to treat addicts. Insurance providers also limit or deny claims for treatment and follow-up care. While physicians have made progress in dealing with this disease in their colleagues, nursing continues to treat their colleagues with disdain.
