Greg Swanson’s Summary

I'm a 30-year veteran of the publishing industry. In December of 2005, Gillian Floren and I started ITZ Publishing, an online consulting company. Within a couple of months we added Dan Adams as a partner.

Itz Publishing provides sales training and web design services to major media companies. Recent and current customers include the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News, The Salt Lake Tribune, El Paso Times, The LA Daily News, Swift Newspapers, Wick Newspapers, Lee Enterprises, and many more. This past year, Itz has also worked with alternative newsweeklies (Tucson and Baton Rouge) and business magazines (Oregon, Louisiana, and Hawaii.)

Prior to starting ITZ, I spent seven years as Director of Interactive Media Sales for Lee Enterprises, and added the role of CEO of Wired Partners (a division of Lee enterprises) during my last two years at Lee. My primary contribution to Lee's online effort was in the area of coaching print sales people how to cross-sell online advertising. Lee’s success in selling non-classified online advertising to local advertisers is among the best in the newspaper industry.

I conduct seminars for the Inland Press Association, The Suburban Newspaper Association, the NAA (Newspaper Association of America), INMA (International Newspaper Marketing Association), INFE (International Newspaper Financial Executives),The Media Center and API (The American Press Association), and havelectured across Oregon, Montana, Illinois, and North Carolina in various universities and colleges.

In 1986,I joined with 3 great friends and co-founded The Insiders' Guides travel series, which grew to be one of America's largest guidebook series. We were selling online packages in 1995.

I am passionate about nature and the outdoors.

I take birding seriously.

I tell people that ITZ does site design, can direct staffing requirements, we offer America's best sales training, we directly sell advertising for many clients, we do lots of vendor consulting, and we deliver audience research, but what we specialize in is helping media sites drive revenue.

I have served on a lot of boards- the New Media Federation of the NAA, the Association of Alternative Newsweeklies, the Association of Weekly Newspapers, Impact Engine and City Express.
