Associate editor at Cambodia Daily
Cambodia
I currently work as an associate editor at the Cambodia Daily. I am also looking for freelance opportunities as a writer here.
I am a journalist with more interests than I can count. I am trained primarily as a newspaper writer and editor. I have specialized in narrative writing and in-depth features that connect trends with the stories of people that impersonate these trends. I've also worked on daily stories, from local politics to breaking news, crime, science or business.
I have, however, explored many other aspects of the profession. I am comfortable in the online world, keep a blog (www.thejjunkie.com), edit audio and video and am versed in digital photography. I would love to do radio as well.
My aim is to work internationally, especially in the developing world. That's what I'm doing right now, in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. I am interested in all sorts of international politics and economic affairs and have an educational background in international economics and business. I have traveled throughout Europe and the United States and am now set to explore South East Asia.
My interest, for further down the line in my career, is in media management. I enjoy leading a team, working with other journalists on their craft and giving direction to a publication.
Editing, business and economics reporting, religion writing, film and digital photography, video editing, AP style, native French, advanced German, fluent English, management, basic html and CSS, Adobe CS suite, Mac and Windows platforms, U.S. media law

I cover Cambodian national news daily. I am called on to write on all sorts of topics, but cover more in depth diplomatic (and military) relations with Thailand (and the countries' current border dispute). I have revealed an illegal compulsory draft of villagers into the Cambodian army and have alerted public opinion to the rape and murder of two girls virtually ignored by police.

The highlight of my time as a reporter at the Missourian was a weeklong trip to New Orleans following a group of volunteers. I filed stories from there, kept a blog, wrote a narrative feature upon my return and coordinated a multimedia package.

The "class preparatoire" is an exclusively French system, which can best be compared to the first two years of a five-year master's program. It's an intensive prep program after high school that prepares students for the extremely competitive exams to enter prestigious, specialized private colleges. The "class prepa" provides a strong liberal arts background, and the specialized college takes care of more specific training,
My field was economics with a minor in math, and I prepared to enter business school. I studied 40 hours a week of economics, math, literature, history, philosophy, English and German.
