Technical Marketing at Juniper Networks
Austin, Texas Area
I began life as a Unix hacker while in high school, focused primarily on Slackware Linux and FreeBSD. After graduating, I worked at Modern Explorations that summer, as a server and dial-up administrator. I also managed a lab of thin-client terminals, taught Internet 101 classes, did web design, and helped start a Cybercafe.
I then went to college at Purdue to study telecommunications and worked part-time for the Purdue Data Network team. I helped migrate their campus from dinosaur FDDI/token systems to ATM/Ethernet. I also did some Web site consulting for local businesses on the side. Between that, my PDN job, and school, I kept quite busy.
One summer, I interned at a consulting shop in Mississippi, focusing on Novell and Netware to AD migrations. I got my CCNA and got to hone my customer-facing skills quite a bit.
I spent my last two college years working at a local ISP, which was then bought by Winstar Corporation. I was the local network security officer and also worked in the NOC managing equipment for thousands of Indiana/Illinios dial-up, frame, T1, and application hosting customers.
When I graduated, I moved out to the Bay Area and got into Content Networking at a start-up, Array Networks. I helped start their customer services division, built their performance/benchmarking team, and then as Product Manager, evolved the product line and also helped launch their SSL-VPN line.
In 2004, a competitor, Neoteris, called me up and asked me to join their SSL-VPN Product Management team. Neoteris did very well, got acquired by NetScreen, and then Juniper, and that is where I am still today. It is a great job, and I love the technologies and people I work with. If you're in this business, or want to know more, drop me a line.
Expertise in the following areas/protocols: UNIX, Network Security, Network Management and Administration, AAA, PKI, SSL, Crypto, HTTP, TCP, DNS, and Network/Security Solution Architecting.
An Excellent Presenter, Product Manager, and Technical Liason.
I have also been known to help a sales guy close a deal or two.. ;-)

1998 — 2000 (2 years)
After-hour NOC engineer. Worked with NOC team daily while growing from a local ISP to a full-blown regional Winstar local exchange. Remotely managed an additional ISP in Chicago. My daily life was mostly writing scripts or using tools (e.g. Cryptocard, LDAPS, Radiator RADIUS, Tripwire, Nessus, Ghost, RCS, SCP) to get jobs done more quickly and securely. Primary focus was on Server management (DNS, HTTP, SMTP, POP3) and T1/Frame Relay Circuits. Supported thousands of dial-up, web and mail hosting customers as well as being an escalation point for customer service.

When I wasn't studying (most of the time), you could find me in any of the campus's computer labs, usually fixing people's problems or bypassing that silly "reboot, reinstall" policy they had.. What a waste of 7 minutes of computering power. *shakes head*
