Rebecca Parker’s Summary

After graduating with a First Class Bachelor of Arts degree in French with Spanish, I cut my teeth as a multi-lingual personal assistant at Credit Suisse Group. Working in the prestigious Canary Wharf complex, I gained a taste for the world of international business. This inspired me to break off and move into the translation industry, establishing Into English Ltd.

I now translate full-time as a freelance professional and find the singular task of managing a business whilst providing top-quality linguistic services both rewarding and self-evolving. The skills I was academically trained in (translation theory and practice) have stood me in good stead for the work which now fires me to leap out of bed every morning!

Rebecca Parker’s Specialties:

I specialize in scientific and technical translation.
e.g. patents, manuals, books, presentations

Most of my work-stream is French to English translation. However, I also translate Spanish into English, edit English texts and write a variety of both factual and non-factual texts in English.

Rebecca Parker’s Experience

  • Volunteer Diabetes Support Group Facilitator

    Diabetes UK

    (Health, Wellness and Fitness industry)

    September 2007Present (2 years 3 months)

I attended a training course in 2007 run by the charity Diabetes UK to become a support group facilitator. I have type 1 diabetes and setting up a local group where recently diagnosed diabetics can come to share their feelings in a safe, peer-led environment is part of a new Diabetes UK initiative called 3D (Diabetes, Diagnosis, Discussion) hoping to reach young diabetics (18-30 years old).
Many diabetics feel they are bombarded with medical information but very little by way of emotional support is offered. Diagnosis can be a troubling time for diabetics. They must come to terms with the fact that they now have a life-long metabolic/autoimmune condition for which there is currently no known cure.
There have been many medical advances which allow us to lead full and long lives. It is important to celebrate the positive and at the same time have a space to share the not-so-positive.
Isolation is one of the lesser-known side effects of diabetes and is wholly preventable!
