Cultural anthropologist, author, academic, Fulbright Scholar, consultant with background in academic and corporate research. My business, Indicia Consulting, is focused on helping retailers create communities of users around their services.
Anthropology provides a holistic perspective, examining how a particular business is nested within a set of relationships in a specific environment. I provide owners (and other stakeholders) with an evolutionary paradigm for growing their organization.
I am interested in working with people who want to experiment with using anthropological methods to solve tough business challenges.
Quantitative and qualitative analysis, ethnographic methodologies, formal and informal interviews, oral histories, participant-observation, photography.
Product marketing, event planning, trade shows, user programs, market research, designed giveaways.
German fluency, archival training, paleography, grant writing, scientific editorial experience.
Teaching experience with 7,500 students/7 years. Founder of Anthrofans, online group with 900+ subscribers.

I teach anthropology at both CSUs and community colleges in the Inland Empire region of Southern California. I teach whatever is needed, so in addition to the classics (Intro to Cultural, Intro to Physical, Intro to Archaeology) I also teach Native Cultures, Culture Change and Globalization, Cultures of Europe, and my current favorite, Community Design and Social Change (Cal Poly Pomona, Spring 2008).

Anthrodiva's Living Room was a year-long experiment in providing my online Avatar, Anthrodiva, a home base from which to hold forth on civic society, green manifestos, third places, viral marketing, social engineering, mass media and popular culture. The site closed when I experienced a temporary shortage of bile, and a concurrent time-crunch pursuing actual paid employment.
My avatar is still active on sites including Slate's Fray, Gawker Media, Huffington Post, and elsewhere (just google me). Anthrodiva continues to manage Anthrofans and contribute to Associated Content.
