Japan
Journalist, photographer and producer (of TV programs and privately owned internet sites). Author of 'Vrouw breekt los' (Dutch book about Japanese society, 2002).
Work as a journalist and photographer for several daily newspapers and radio stations. Organizations like Associated Press, The Times, Wired Magazine and Australia's Herald Sun have carried my work and I have worked on TV and radio programs, for amongst others, the BBC and NHK. Over the years I have covered major news stories like the earthquakes in Kobe (1995), Taiwan (1999), India (2001), Pakistan (2005) and China (2008), the Tsunami Disaster of 2004 in Sri Lanka, Thailand and Indonesia, as well as the horrific train accident near Osaka (April 2005).
The Japanese Red Cross Organization uses my photos of natural disasters on posters, publications and for fund raising purposes.
My site JapaneseStreets.com about Japanese street fashion was nominated for a Webby Award in 2003. It is the world's most popular site about Japanese street fashion, consistently ranking number one on Google, and also features reports and full collections of Japan Fashion Week.
