My main strength is to combine my dual background in biology and computer science with analytical thinking and creativity to solve scientific informatics problems in dynamic and rapidly changing research environments. I have a track record of project and team leadership at the interface between experimental biologists and computer scientists.
My main interests are platform architecture and tools for biological data management, visualization, and analysis. Scientifically, I am particularly interested in computational systems biology, in particular biological pathway informatics, and molecular evolution.
On the technical side, I have a deep knowledge of data modeling, incl. relational modeling, programming and software architecture in various languages and technologies (OOD/OOP, UML, Java, full J2EE stack, Perl, C, R, PL/SQL, and others), and algorithm development, with more than a decade of relevant experience.
Project leadership, Software Engineering (Java, J2EE/EJB/JSP/JSTL, Perl, C, C++, R/S-Plus, PL/SQL, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Design Patterns), Data modeling, Relational database development, Data analysis, Algorithm development.
