Hjörtur is the owner and CEO of Scope Communications ehf., a marketing consultancy in Reykjavik, Iceland specializing in branding and Internet marketing (viral, blogs, social media, SEO, SEM). Hjörtur has a decade behind him in marketing, starting as copy writer and concept developer at Hvita husid ad agency in Reykjavik working for many of the biggest brands in Iceland.
Since then he has been working with marketing on the internet in one way or the other and was for a period the director of a company specializing in email marketing (permission marketing, no SPAM!). Hjörtur established Scope Communications in Copenhagen in 1999 but it first became his full time job in 2004.
Recent projects include CoolBrands - awarding the coolest brands in Iceland and publishing the book "CoolBrands - an insight into some of Iceland's coolest brands; consultant on web projects, viral marketing and place branding, frequent speaker and a columnist in Vidskiptabladid, the local business newspaper in Iceland. Hjörtur runs several forums and blog magazines in Icelandic.
Hjörtur has an academic background in anthropology, finishing his BA at the University of Iceland, with political science as minor. He later finished a masters degree in political science from Lund University in Sweden, specializing in diplomacy, conflict resolution and peace negotiation writing the thesis "Does Size Matter - Asymmetry in the Negotions on the Sovereignty of the Faroe Islands". Additional to that he took one semester in Business and Economic Development which is a part of the Cand.merc.int program in Copenhagen Business School, Denmark.
Hjörtur now lives in Iceland with his wife, dog and four children.
