Originally from Maryland, John attended college in South Carolina on tennis scholarship and, upon graduation, immediately relocated to Hilton Head Island as he thoroughly enjoys the Island’s southern lifestyle and climate.
Specializing in residential new single family homes, condos and re-sale properties, John is well educated with each existing and future planned community in Beaufort County.
Before joining the real estate world, John Robinson had been a tennis professional for over 20 years at various facilities around the United States including the John Newcombe’s Tennis Ranch in Texas, the John Gardiner’s Tennis Ranch in California, Columbia Country Club in the Washington, DC area, the Sea Pines Racquet Club and the Van der Meer TennisUniversity on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, and the Athletic Club of Weston in South Florida.
John has been a United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) Professional 1 member since 1988 and a Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) National Tester/National Clinician since 1993. John was voted PTR’s “National Tester of the Year” in 1998.
In addition to real estate services, John is associated with Lowcountry Sports Network where he conducts tennis classes, workshops, tournaments, and corporate functions in the Hilton Head Island, South Carolina area as well as traveling tennis events.

PTR Tennis Teacher Workshops are the most successful international training courses available for tennis teachers and coaches. They are based on a fundamental teaching method developed by Dennis Van der Meer.
More than 400 PTR Tennis Teacher Workshops are conducted on five continents each year.
Workshop participants vary within the tennis industry. Some are professional players making career changes. Others are tennis teaching professionals, college coaches, USTA clinicians, high school coaches and program volunteers.
All workshops are led by specially trained PTR Clinicians. Workshop Leaders begin their training as PTR Certification Testers.

Responsible for all instructional programs at 25 court facility in South Florida. Programs included junior introductory classes, intermediate, high school level, and elite programs for exceptional players. Other offerings included adult beginner, intermediate, and advanced clinics as well as ladies team practices. In addition to instruction, responsibilities included all social and competitive tournaments and club events. The Club caters to several hundred members and their guests and is one of the premiere tennis facilities in South Florida.

Responsible for directing many corporate events, tournaments and clinics. Tournament Director for two USTA-sanctioned events and one USTA Professional Satellite event. Private and group instruction to adults and juniors, ladies leagues, round robin tournaments, and participation in weekly exhibitions at the Tennis Center and also at the Van Der Meer Shipyard Tennis Resort. Traveled with Dennis Van der Meer and other senior staff to conduct various clinics at sites around the country. Coached various team players from several universities around the country during their yearly visits to Hilton Head Island. Lectured at Ferris State University (Big Rapids, MI) to 80 Tennis Management students. Participated in the hiring and training of new tennis professional staff.

Played exhibitions with such noted professionals as Stan Smith (SPRC Touring Professional), Tim and Tom Gullikson, and Ken Rosewall. Supervisor of Ball Kids for $750,000 Family Circle Magazine Cup. Additional responsibilities included organizing, promoting, acquiring sponsorships for, and directing club events and tournaments open to members and resort guests.

After playing junior sanctioned tournaments in the Mid-Atlantic region, I accepted a full tennis scholarship to the University of South Carolina in Spartanburg where I competed as the captain and #1/#2 singles and doubles player until graduation with a Business Management degree in May 1989.
